Shabana Azmi – Prestige of Indian Womanhood

The spirit of Indian literature was attracted me from the childhood, when I read Jawaharlal Nehru’s compositions. Too many subjects he had disclosed with an exotic style to his readers and followers across and outside India. His prose is tremendous, blended with the aroma and fragrance of our cultural soil and soul. He was the one who saluted and described his better half (Kamala) as the ‘Symbol of Indian Womanhood’.

Apart from the above, I would like to spot out the famous and intelligent artist ‘Shabana Azmi’ the ‘Prestige of Indian Womanhood’. She is now praised with a special and entirely different Award, rather than any Best Actress/Urvasi award. The ‘Gandhi International Peace Prize (2006) awarded by Gandhi Foundation, London. Award committee announced that it must be given for her delighted and dedicated activities to bring up the poor and homeless in the rural areas of Mumbai. She is the one who is getting this award after ‘Nelson Mandela’ and ‘Dalaey Lama’. It is extremely an endeavor for her than any ‘Manickchand’s Film Fake’ awards.

As everyone knows, the outspoken people of slum areas of Mumbai are having so many indecent and immortal questions against the rulers and leaders of our state and central rulers. The industrial capital of India has been faded with their demonstrations, for being to get their fundamental rights. How these slum people and have-nots have not been eradicated and recreated with a new life even after the half a century of our independence? What a foolish word we are repeating through our shameless believes about right and duties of citizens?

How Shabana Azmi has become a heroine for them? Is it a cinematic chapter to the media? Or else, is it created by Pakistan and their nasty international interests? No. Always she was trying to attend from the silly and formulated problems till the ethical humiliations of those ‘ordinary bastards’.

This type of social work must be supported and encouraged by everyone for feeling a peace of mind when we go to bed. We are all not ready to do such things due to so many personal reasons. But we can appreciate them, who are in the forefront of the re-construction activities on humanitarian backgrounds.

Let Shabana Azmi to avoid ‘evil prosecutions’ against her since last few years, blocking her from acting movies and demonstrating together with her ideologically supported groups. We remember the useless allegations related to ‘Fire’ and ‘Water’, the creations on screen by Deepa Mehta. Let her to do more and more artistic and humanitarian agitations against our hidden bad instincts.

"I am a daughter, a wife, a mother, a woman, an actress, an Indian, and a Muslim. Each of those identities is important to me." - Shabana Azmi
